 Because of Kahanu’s
unique Hawaiian catamaran design, we are able to travel up close to
the Pali - cliffs where can view sea caves, waterfalls, lava
tubes and beautiful white sand beaches. You will see the majestic lush valleys where at one time ancient Hawaiian home sites and villages were located. You will also see the rock foundations of their homes and evidence of the terracing of the land that was once used as a farming technique. |
 These ocean waters are Captain Lani’s
home. He knows the currents and feeding grounds of ocean mammals
such as the nai’a, the porpoises and dolphins, the honu, the Hawaiian
green sea turtles and the kohola, the humpback whales. The Humpback
whales are usually in Hawaii’s warm waters from December through
April. We have been seeing an increase in whale population on each tour.
Catching a close up view of these whales is an awesome experience! The
Federal law states a 100 yards is the distance a vessel must be away
from the whales. Upon seeing a pod of whales, Captain turns off his
engines and many times the humpback whales will move toward
Kahanu and give us a wonderful up close show. A unique observation
we are often able to make is watching a mother whale teach and nurture
her calve to swim towards the surface and see the huge difference in
their sizes. At a distance, you will even see the huge mammals give
you a smiling look of Aloha! …. Because they love you! ……..
Catamaran Kahanu is noted for its whale watching and sightseeing tours of the Na Pali coastline during the months of December through April. Kahanu has lots of room to walk around and move about, a spacious covered area to get out of the sun, and a private restroom on board. Another unique quality of Kahanu is its “flying bridge” which gives the Captain a greater advantage in locating the porpoises and humpback whales. The design of Catamaran Kahanu’s forward decks gives you the best possible position for picture taking of these magnificent creatures. |
